écrivain du jour—Salinger

The Catcher in the Rye is my favorite book.
when i'm bored I look up quotes by people i like.

"Among other things, you'll find that you're not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behaviour. You're by no means alone on that score, you'll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, any men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of tehm kept records of their troubles. You'll learn from them—if you want to. Just as some day, it you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It's a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn't education. It's history. It's poetry."—J.D. Salinger

“What I was really hanging around for, I was trying to feel some kind of a good-by. I mean I've left schools and places I didn't even know I was leaving them. I hate that. I don't care if it's a sad good-by, or a bad good-by, but when I leave a place I like to know I'm leaving it. If you don't, you feel even worse.”—J.D. Salinger

touch my swag

so its snowing...
like really snowing like blizzard of '95 snowing.
Me and my sister, Kai were up talking to Lady and Daddy about snowing and how much it sucks. The blizzard of '95 was pretty boss though. it was like 3 feet of snow.

i discovered today that i fell into a snow bank....maybe that's why i don't like the snow.
Not like anyone left me there, but the snow was high enough for me to fall in and be briefly buried. i don't remember this. i'm ok with that, it sounds scary.

what i do remember:
Lady woke us up in the middle of the night to go out in the snow. We were little, may have been before the blizzard of 95 hit hard.
Lady made a big heart in the center of the apartment's courtyard out of foot prints.
The memory is like a dream sequence in a fuzzy warm feeling kind of movie.

Kai was dancing on the porch singing this song:

i'm not sure why because she looked crazy and knew i had a camera in hand....

then we heard "gun shots" ran for cover and fell.

Playing in the snow is dangerous

GRILLED CHEESE

WTF IS THIS CRAP!!!???

if you don't know how to effectively make a grilled cheese sandwich you need to get the hell out of the kitchen.
Butter side down is messy. There are these magic tools called cheese knives and motor skills. Get some before attempting to cut cheese.

PS. my grilled cheese sandwiches are FANFREAKINTASTIC

where did my childhood go? it would be kinda nice to have it back. thanks

“I don’t think its over. I think we are in that in between stage. Like we are practicing to be adults, but could really be just as happy in overalls running around.”—MOH (friend since 1st grade)

i don’t know when it ended. in a telephone conversation with my dad he said “childhood is over”.

I know he was saying it to give me a reality check while i was freaking out about something and I really do appreciate it. I am in college now and I am working hard in school to do something with my life, not because the state requires me to be in school.

Was there a cut off, a day that childhood ended?

Was there a room i walked into, is childhood a place i get permanently locked out of?

i could really rock some overalls and sit on the couch watching Hey Arnold with some mac n cheese.

i guess if we never grew up no one else would have a chance at a childhood.

i would never hurry my princess soso's childhood.

friends are fun

it's really great to see my friends. i sorta feel like i never left, but at the same time i feel i have been gone forever.

i went to the homecoming football game and saw a lot of my central people, but didn't get to really spend a lot of time with anyone. i went back to Central the Monday after thanksgiving to see my teachers and visit a few friends. it was nice seeing everyone, but i think i'm gonna try and stay out of the halls of Central High for a while.

I had lunch with Blondie (amelia) and we had soooo much fun. We yelled, jumped, laughed, ate, creeped, wandered, ate again, ran, hugged then i left.

jo came over today and yesterday. We yelled, hugged, laughed, took retarded pictures, reminisced, i ate, it rained, she left.

i'm going to NYC to see juicy this weekend. i can't wait i miss her soo much. its crazy to go from seeing someone everyday to not seeing them for months.

its good to be home

I hate being early!!

it's not fun being early anymore. my flight has been delayed an hour and a half. my butt is numb from sitting. I refuse to pay for internet access. The girl sitting on the wall near me wont shut up.

I want WAWA DAMNIT!

-girl

at the airport

i was nervous i would be waiting in line after line at the airport. i have had a great experience at the airport so far...this is rare. My aunt dropped me off, i checked my bags at teh curb, there was no one in line ahead of me. i hate going through security, they barely looked at my boarding pass... now that i think about it i'm not sure woman at the end of the metal detector looked at my pass at all. Hmmmmm......

i'm like 2 hours early for my flight. i'm never early, this is kind of exciting.

Only thing better than people watching on the bus is people watching at the airport. There's just sooo many people to secretly judge.

I'll be home soon. I already called daddy. we are going to WAWA as soon as we leave the airport!

i have a love hate relationship with CTA

i really despise public transportation, but thoroughly enjoy people watching. Of course the best place to people watch is on a bus or train. The Chicago Transportation Authority really needs to make my people watching more enjoyable. Frequently i get on the bus and it smells like vomit or dead animals—i know bums need a ride too but can we fabreeze them first if they aren't going to bathe?

i appreciate the crazies and loud baby mamas when they are not sitting next to me. You see some really interesting people on CTA. sometimes you run into someone normal who will talk to you bout how crazy everyone else is—that's always fun.
If i could i would ride the L all day and take pictures of the lovely/crazy/ghetto/ignorant people i meet.
camera phones are my best friends

i was on the train today and happy with my ride. i really love seeing polite people, they are wonderful. On the L people were practically tripping over themselves to get lil kids and elderly people a seat. Of course i was sitting next to the rude girl with her legs all in the walk way.

i wanted to smack her in the leg and tell her to stop being triflin. Old ladies shouldn't have to step over her tacky boots just to sit down.

Karmas a bitch, that girl is probably going to trip getting off the train.

i heart art

i love this. i stumbled upon this Brazilian artist named Patricia Ariel.
the watercolors are so beautiful. She clearly likes drawing women—women and art just go together.

speaking of women and art.....
i have always loved seeing Alphonse Mucha posters. i remember seeing the paintings/drawings in calendars, vintage and poster stores. i want one....one day.

officially in college

Yesterday i finished my first quarter (yes, quarters not semesters) at DePaul University!
its crazy it went by soooo fast. The quarters are only 10weeks but I swear it was shorter. It has been an interesting 10weeks.

i have moved out of my parents house, moved in with my aunt, enrolled in classes, wrote more essays than i did in my entire senior year, stayed up till 5am many times trying to finish homework, got sick 3 times, enrolled for next quarter classes, fell in love with Chicago.

it is still kinda weird to say i am in college. i knew it was gonna happen and i am enjoying being here (when i'm not up at 5am doing homework), but its weird. When i first got here i was hype because i've never had this much free time. i didn't know what do with it. Now i know. HOMEWORK—it does not control my life if i space out my work, but i'm 18, time management is still a work in progress. homework, studying, sleeping, eating, going out. its possible to do all of it if you keep a schedule which i don't. Next quarter i got this forreal forreal.

i really love being here but i cannot wait to go home and see my family and friends. i didn't think i would miss everyone so much. im going to be home for 6 weeks straight (great benefit of being on the quarter system) i already know what i want to do. TAKE PICTURES

i haven't been able to take many pictures here since my friends here have totally different schedules from me, or just have no desire to wander the city with me for hours taking random pictures.

only took forever for me to start my own blog

i finally have my own. i have been putting it off, thinking of reasons why i shouldn't have one. Namely i have too much stuff to do to.

Buuuut when i think about it i spend countless hours on facebook doing absolutely nothing. At least i can post something that may even be insightful, but above all [a]musing.

Hence the name [a]musing.
Muse: |myoōz| verb [ intrans. ]—be absorbed in thought.
noun—musing: an instance or period of reflection.
When ever i go on a random rant about something my mom (lady) says "the random musings of Asha". They are random but i find them amusing and i feel i should share, so i GoTellLady.
