for the stolen ones....

i started writing a poem down my thigh because i didn't have paper. There has been a lot of sadness around philly and my community. i felt i had to write something down.

ahhh death you rear your ugly head again.
not to take one of mine but one of those in alliance.
you do it just to tease take the innocent with thunder and regret.
you make us blame ourselves,
question our motives,
and shed tears we didn't expect to use for years.
ahhh death you're a tricky one you are. knock us off our toes,
put weapons in the hands of the weak,
to bring the living closer together.
we light candles in the darkness
but we can't ligh candles in our hearts.
i wasn't expecting to see you so soon.
felt like yesterday when he was stolen from the love.
was this some sick reminder that my life is short,
that love is undying
and appreciation can raise hundreds?
with all the pain you caused taking him from us
and her from them,
we are all learning to overcome.
send letters of affection and take pictures of friendships.
join in times of pain and rejoice in our memories.
tattoo love poems down our spines to support our ambition.
ahhh death you slip in and out of life.
i will never forget you and i surely won't get used to you.
for to lay down and take pain is to give up.
moving on, overcoming and remembering
is not the same as accepting and becoming consumed with the concept of you.
i'm choosing to remember and do better.
live out what they were not permitted to do.
most importantly tell those i love what matters most
their presence, even for just a moment, makes my life worth living

SHHHH......

Today is the day of silence. it is the day we sit in silence to represent the silence LGBTQ people must feel everyday. We take for granted the ability to voice opinions, beliefs, dreams, desires, and love. Today we keep in mind those who cannot.
This is a silent movement, a silent protest against discrimination and violence. be silent for your brother, sister, mother, father, cousin, daughter, son, aunt, uncle, grandchildren and friends.

"There are times when silence has the loudest voice."-Leroy Brownlow

"See how nature-trees, flowers, grass-grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...we need silence to be able to touch souls."-Mother Teresa of Calcutta

"The best answer to anger is silence."-unknown

"In the end antiblack, antifemale, and all forms of discrimination are equivalent to the same thing-antihumanism."-Shirley Chisholm

"I don't think homosexuality is a choice. Society forces you to think it's a choice, but in fact, its in one's nature. The choice is whether one expresses one's nature truthfully or spends the rest of one's life lying about it"-Marlo Thomas

"I'm a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being... by the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private parts is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant.”-Paul Newman

last year i had on my green tape all day at school. My lil sis and i organized probably the biggest day of silence at Central High School of Philadelphia. There were students all over school wearing different colored duct tape to symbolize they are being silent for the day.

this year.... unfortunately i am unable to be silent. i will be going to a family event and will be meeting dozens of people. I am all for making a statement, but i do not support being rude to family members. i will be ignoring all phone calls though and limiting my talking to a speak when spoken to situation.

The ballet

Today i went to see the Joffrey Ballet perform Cinderella.
I love the ballet and like all things i love some one around me manages to ruin it. =(
A small child was seated behind me kicking my chair till the point i couldn't take it anymore. i turned around n snapped at her to stop. Oblivious mom remained oblivious.

Note to self: matinee show is for old ladies and children–AVOID the matinee show at all costs.

All in all i really liked the show. The last professional ballet i saw was the nutcracker and i don't even remember how old i was. I love the theater and would really like to go as much as possible. I saw the DePaul theater school perform A Raisin in the Sun and that was fantastic, aside from the irritating audience clapping and laughing when nothing was happening.

is it possible to watch a show with only people you like in the room? if so, where?

I think i'm going to try and see Cinderella again with friends and the evening show that starts after bedtime.

watch the preview for Cinderella its lovely.
